In Broadcast Audio Production, time has become one of the most decisive factors. Engineers working with audio-recording often face the task of recording audio material while at the same time start with editing and mixing, even if the recording is still running. Recording audio formats can be chosen from a variety of broadcast formats (e.g. .wav, .mus, .mp3, FLAC and others) in order to ensure project continuity from recording to editing and audio export.

Sequoia offers recording functionalities adapted precisely for a time-optimized workflow:

Record without playback

This unique function enables the non-destructive editing of audio material which is in the process of being recorded. Derived from analogue tape machines, the separation of playback and record head yields the possibility of editing an entire project with full playback and mixing capabilities while the recording is running at the same time.

Export while recording

In news and feature production, where time-to-broadcast is king, Sequoia empowers the user with the option of exporting parts of audio material which is still recording. The versatile audio-engine of Sequoia makes it possible to perform this seemingly undoable task: Export of a .wav, .mpg or .mus file which is still recording.

Together with the editing and playback abilities in the course of a recording situation, the added export functionality allows the maximum of flexibility.

Videocapturing

Simultaneous video capturing along audio recording is becoming an important request in broadcast production environment. Sequoia offers on-board video recording without the need for additional 3rd party video software. By recording video in parallel with audio using the same editor, guarantees maximum synchrony of both media.

By using the same editing techniques as for audio objects and tracks, Sequoia simplifies video handling and enables streamline multitrack video productions.

Mixing

Besides of its unique recording features, Sequoia also offers an advanced toolset for mixing all types of audio productions – from radio commentaries to 12.0-channel surround soundtracks. Different audio formats from 16 bit to 32 bit floating point and sample rates up to 384 kHz can be mixed together within the same arrangement, the sample rate conversion being calculated in realtime during playback.

Sequoia supports precise automation of track and plug-in parameters in the well-known Touch, Latch, Trim and Overwrite modes. The automation curve is graphically displayed and can be edited intuitively. The automation is also available for supported third-party VST instruments and plug-ins. Multiple hardware controllers are being supported via MIDI or EuCon® interface.

In the course of mixing, highly-developed digital algorithms, phase linear plug-ins and the consistent use of floating point calculations (especially when it comes to summing different signals on a master or bus) ensure that the sound retains its nuances after digital sound processing.

Sequoia provides out-of-the-box:

  • 999 tracks with up to 64 inserts per channel
  • Full latency compensation of all channels, buses, etc.
  • Real-time effects: Advanced Dynamics, Multiband Dynamics, FFT Filter, phase-linear 6-band EQ (with automatic latency compensation), Room Simulator (Convolution Reverb), Time Stretching / Pitch Shifting, Denoiser (noise print calculation), Restoration tools and more
  • Offline effects: Spectral Cleaning V2, DC offset removal
  • Voltage Controlled Amplifier (VCA) faciliating large mixer setups
  • Mixdown to all supported formats (mix to file option, individual trackbouncing)
  • On-the-fly exporting and CD burning (red book compatible) including DDP export and playback
